Anti-Inflammatory Dog Biscuits that are Quick and Easy

Take advantage of the natural anti-inflammatory compounds in turmeric and make these anti-inflammatory dog biscuits for your pet. This dog biscuit recipe is simple and easy to make, and a win with any canine pet.

Pets age and face age-related challenges much like humans. Joint stiffness, slower movement, and a general decrease in mobility can impact the quality of life for our older dogs. This dog biscuit recipe is quick to whip up for your favourite canine and is specially formulated for older pets. Anti-inflammatory compounds in turmeric act as natural pain relief for dogs, and can help reduce your pet’s stiffness and soreness. The treat is sized to be appropriate for larger dogs and easily administered. Change the size by changing the cookie cutter you use.

It can be challenging to make pets their treats daily. This dog biscuit recipe is perfect as a make once and feed daily item. Turmeric is a safe spice for your dog, especially in a food-based dose [1].

Scientific Information

While it is tempting to focus on Curcumin as the main beneficial component of the whole turmeric, studies have shown that there are around 300 different constituents in the turmeric root [2].

However, since turmeric is a rhizome it can absorb non-beneficial molecules from its environment. If possible, it is important to use organic turmeric for human use, and also for your pets. Fresh turmeric will have a more defined impact than older, or stale, turmeric. However, while perfectly fresh turmeric is good for your cooking, or golden milk, it is preferred to use a powdered form for this recipe.

Both people and pets gain from eating turmeric. Some of turmeric’s health benefits include being, antifungal, antimicrobial, and antioxidant, making it useful as a daily or weekly spice. For your older pets, turmeric is also anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, and neuro-protective. It is antiviral, and anti-tumour, as well.

My Great Pyrenees love these dog biscuits and expect them at breakfast and bedtime. Giving them throughout the day allows sustained anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving benefits. If your dog is smaller, use a smaller dog biscuit cutter. You’ll be more biscuits from the recipe. For a second option for adding turmeric to your pet’s diet, you can check out our turmeric chews for dogs. Both of our turmeric for pets recipes are wheat-free and may be grain-free if your gluten-free, all-purpose flour is free of rice.

This is also a great dog biscuit recipe if you have friends with pets who might like homemade treats as a gift. These biscuits are sturdy and would be perfectly packaged up for a dog’s birthday, for a hostess surprise, or for a family Christmas gift that remembers the pets too.

Our older Great Pyrenees enjoys these biscuits a few times a day as a supplement to their regular raw food diet. With the cold increasing her stiffness and soreness, it’s been great to see her moving just a little easier and happier with these dog treats.
