Jesus continues in Matthew 19:6, "So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate." His answer can be paraphrased as, "Look, you have got things all wrong. Marriage is not just a physical relationship that one can make or break at any time and for any reason.

The first biblical ground for divorce is adultery.

Do not treasure earthly treasures because it is an effort in futility. Jesus says in verse 19 that what you are accumulating on earth never works out. The treasures of earth are not permanent nor protected. Jesus is telling us that the treasures of earth are a silly investment.

By bringing the issue back to the Scriptural foundation of marriage, Jesus makes it plain that couples must forsake their singleness (a man shall leave his father and mother), and come together in a one-flesh relationship that is both a fact (they are… one flesh) and a goal (shall become one flesh).

Then, when the Old Testament mentions saris as eunuchs who were employed as personal attendants of a queen or a harem, it highlights the era of Iron Age. Eunuchs were men who were castrated in order to be trusted in overseeing the king's domestic interests, especially in protecting king's harems.

CAN A PERSON LIVE IN ADULTERY AND OTHER SINS AND GO TO HEAVEN? The Bible answers this question with an emphatic “No” in many passages (1 John 3:8; 5:18; Col 3:5-6; Galatians 5:21; Hebrews 12:14; Matthew 5:30: Matthew 25:30; 1 Cor. 6:9-10; Matthew 5:29-30, etc.

In the first, Matthew quotes Jesus as saying: “It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, except on the grounds of porneia (sexual immorality), makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” (Matthew 5:31-32).

God designed marriage to last for life, a strong commitment that reflects God's master design. His will for you is to stay married unless there is ongoing and unrepentant abuse or infidelity. You must renew your commitment to your spouse, even if you feel that you have an unhappy marriage.

What did Jesus say was the reason for divorce? ›

Jesus is warning people about practicing deeds of righteousness, religious actions to be seen by others. He says, “When you pray, go in your room, shut the door and pray to your father who is in secret,” like nobody else but you and God, “and your father who sees in secret will reward you.” That's a promise.

He taught that righteous acts of devotion should be done for the right reason and emphasized that they should be done to please our Heavenly Father. He also instructed His disciples to seek first to build the kingdom of God.

John promises in today's passage that the Messiah will baptize not just with water but with the Spirit and fire (v. 11), an image with double meaning. The long awaited flame of the Holy Spirit will purify the soul and eventually remove all corruption from those who submit to the Son of David (Isa. 1:24–26).

This verse was Jesus' supernatural guarantee that when they went to preach, they would have divine protection against serpents, scorpions, and anything else the enemy might try to use to stop or hurt them. This is why Jesus concluded by saying, “… nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Part of Jesus' teaching, “The LORD's Prayer” is asking God that we not be tested. The phrase “lead us not into temptation” means that we're asking God not to allow us to be tried or tested.

They are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. These metaphors represent the impact Christians are meant to have in the world. That's why it matters so much that they do the good works God gives them to do. Otherwise, they will stop being useful as salt and light.
