This article contains info about popper(usage) and some general tips I would like to share with you. Feel free to comment or add some tips of your own.
Poppers nitrite is an inhalant, it belongs to a class/group of chemical compounds known as alkyl nitrites, which also includes Amyl (=Pentyl), (Iso)Butyl, and (Iso)Propyl nitrite or a blend. The liquids get gaseous, aka “the fumes” or “the vapours”, at room temperature and build up inside the bottle.
Before using let the bottle get at room temperature so the moisture won’t condense on the bottle top at the risk of contaminating the contents in the bottle. Also don’t let saliva or lube get in contact with the bottle because this can speed up the breakdown as well. The chemicals are sensitive to moisture, warmth, oxygen and light. Preferably you would like to store them standing upright in a dark/cold spot and in an airtight container.
The liquid is clear/yellowish in colour and when it’s fresh it smells fruity and when stale its smells like some dirty old socks.
Poppers are also classified as a vasodilator. Vasodilators are medicines that cause the blood vessels in the body to dilate and the involuntary smooth muscles to relax.
Medical use
Alkyl nitrite is used medically in some cardiac procedures, including treatment for cyanide poisoning, as well as for angina.
Note: Make sure to read up on poppers before you start using them. You can find enough good quality sources on the internet. Some people are unaware of how poppers should be used and incorrect use can be fatal. Alkyl nitrite liquid shouldnotbe ingested i.e. do not swallow, as it is a highly poisonous substance that can lead to a dramatic drop in blood pressure. It is a powerful irritant that can lead to burns to the face, skin and eyes. Don’t go too hard, and do not mix the drug with anything that’s going to exacerbate its effects. The impact/effects of poppers can be different per user.
Recreational use
It is used to enhance sexual experience or to experience a general sense of pleasure/euphoria. The effects are generally instantly felt or within 10-15 seconds of taking the drug, and lasts for around 2-3 minutes. As a first user just start easy so you won’t get overwhelmed by the experience/rush.
First of all, make sure you know what you are huffing (this can be more difficult than you think). Sometimes the labels don’t give the exact contents of your poppers. A good friend of mine “Tony” informed me about an article that was published online just eight days ago by the government of Australia (https://www.tga.gov.au/testing-alkyl-nitrite-poppers).
If the site, you are buying the poppers from, is not showing the contents you can try calling them and ask them what the content is of the bottle you would like to buy. The content of the “same” bottle can be different per store/country. You can also ask fellow local popperbators about their experiences of a brand/content they prefer. Personally I stick to my favourite content and not to a specific brand.
Also try to keep up with the developments in the poppers market. Every now and then new articles are published about health, usage, etc. Try to compare multiple different sources if you are going to investigate some facts about poppers.
Before you start huffing let the bottle get at room temperature so the vapours can build up in the bottle for a better and faster impact. Personally I like to put the bottle in my armpits to warm up. When the bottle feels warm I am ready to enjoy the fumes. Some people put the bottle in warm water. If you try this make sure the top is sealed air tight (put it against you ear and make sure you don’t hear air travel) and preferable the bottle goes in up until the neck of the bottle.
There are lots of ways you can sniff, some examples are:
- Mouth And Nose Huff – It’s the most used way of huffing. Make sure to clean the mouth/neck of the bottle before you start huffing.
- Sock Huff (Mouth Or Nose) – Poor some of the liquid on the sock roll up so the liquid won’t get in contact with you skin and put it under your nose or in your mouth and inhale. If you put it in your mouth you can also grab a bottle or two and hold it under your nose for an extra rush, but don’t push it.
- Water Bottle/Plastic Bag Huff – Grab a cotton ball, drop some of the liquid on it, and put it in a bag/bottle. Close the bottle and let the vapours build up. Start huffing.
- Masks Huff (Painters ask, Gas mask, Medical mask) – Make sure not soak the mask/filter because the concentration may be too strong and can be a bit risky. This method can get you high real fast.
Try different type of poppers and styles of huffing to find out what works best for you. Keep in mind it’s a combination of the quality of the poppers, HOW, HOW MUCH and HOW DEEP you sniff along with the (controlled) breathing techniques that really counts.
Feel free to try some of the following methods I use:
- Slow Huffing – huff very slow and also releasing very slow and mainly focussing on the pleasure of your poppers. This works best with someone who also is slow huffing. This is a very relaxing method but takes some more time.
- Deep Huffing – Exhale all the air and try to go as deep as possible. Hold it as long as you can and exhale slowly. Personally I like to double barrel when I huff deep. This can be intense. If you are experienced you can try this with fresh/new popper else use already opened ones.
- Maxed Out Huffing – Sometimes I like to huff as much as possible without releasing until I can’t push out more huffs. Then I hold it for as long as feels good and then release very slowly and will repeat this multiple times. This can be intense. If you are experienced you can try this with fresh/new popper else use already opened ones.
- Hold And Release – what also works well is huffing deep or normal and hold it as long as possible, then release up to 60% to 80% air and huff again while holding the 20%. You can mix this up and find a balance that works for you. This can be intense. If you are experienced you can try this with fresh/new popper else use already opened ones.
People have their own way of enjoying popper. Some focus mainly on huffing (from fast and deep to slow and very long huffs), others focus both on the penis and the huffing, some focus on the (brotherhood)connection. You can find some fellow popperbators/groups on (Skype, Batorworld.com, Popperbate.com, reddit(r/popperpigs)).
The use of any drug always carries some risk. It’s important to be careful when taking any type of drug.
Poppers will affect everyone differently, based on:
- Size, weight and health
- Whether the person is used to taking it
- Whether other drugs are taken around the same time
- The amount taken
- The strength of the drug
- Amount of fresh air breathed while inhaling
- Amount of physical activity before and after inhaling
Short-term effects
The effects of poppers include:
- Initial ‘rush’ of euphoria
- Flushing of the face
- Increased heart rate
- Warming sensations
- Feelings of excitement
- Relaxation of involuntary muscles, especially the anal.
- Psychological effects include increased sensual awareness, visual distortions, lowered inhibitions and impaired judgement
- Headaches are common once the ‘high’ passes.
Long-term effects
The level of harm from the long term use of poppers is generally low, the relative harmfulness of poppers places them among the less harmful of recreational drugs.
Isopropyl nitrite poppers may be a cause of maculopathy(eye damage). Some studies have concluded that there may be increased risk for at least temporary retinal damage with habitual popper use in certain users. There have also been reports about vision loss. Also some of the long term effects can range from mild allergic reactions to potentially life threatening methemoglobinemia – a blood disorder that can lead to inadequate oxygen supply to body tissue.
Frequent use can also cause a rash to form around the mouth, nose and eyes, or any skin that regularly comes into contact with the vapours. This can look like a skin irritation. Direct fluid contact with skin can cause burns and should be avoided.
If you are experiencing skin irritation use a moisturizer (before) and after you are done huffing. This also makes sure your skin doesn’t dry out. After you are done huffing wash your face, hands, and arms (if you wipe the bottle with it).
Keep a bottle of water beside you and a piece of cloth/towel to wipe the bottle with, and make sure you are in a room with enough fresh air.
People who are anaemic, have high blood pressure, or increased pressure within the skull (head injury or brain haemorrhage) should avoid using poppers as this can increase the risk of harmful effects. There is also a risk of fluid pressure build-up within the eye, and for people who have underlying glaucoma, this risk is further increased.
The effects of using poppers with other drugs can be unpredictable and dangerous, and could include:
- Poppers + Viagra: A high risk that the person will lose consciousness due to a sudden and extreme drop in blood pressure.
- Poppers + Amphetamine: Increased strain on the heart
Regular use of poppers does not result in dependence. People who use it regularly will not experience withdrawal symptoms, however it may take a few days for their body to get used to not having the drug in their system.
It’s good to sometimes to take a break from poppers because it drags you in very deep and you may find yourself huffing at work in the toilet, on the train, or even outside while you are walking ?.
